Today glass is
produced in wide variety of colours, tints, and
patterns. With a carefully calculated formula
of sand, soda and lime, large quantities can
be produced. Along with these basic ingredients,
alkaline flux and stabilizing substances are
mixed with various quantities of colouring agents
such as cobalt, magnesium, selenium and cadmium.
Batches are blended in huge mixers, then
taken to large furnaces which melt the glass at 2,500 degrees (Fahrenheit).
The red-hot liquid is then ladled into a machine which rolls the glass flat.
It then goes into an annealing lehrs to cool for approximately 35 minutes.
The glass is then given a final quality inspection and is ready to use.
